Shanie Mohamed is the founding Executive Director of JobsFirst NEPA, a first-of-its-kind regional workforce intermediary established to advance solutions for economic mobility in Northeastern Pennsylvania. By convening key stakeholders across education, industry, community, and policy, she works to create pathways to meaningful careers for opportunity youth. In this role, she is dedicated to architecting a more aligned and collaborative workforce ecosystem across NEPA.
Building on a career rooted in economic development, entrepreneurial support, and social innovation leadership, Shanie specializes in bridging the gap between academia, business, and community to create sustainable pathways. As a Microsoft TechSpark Alumni Fellow and Certified Design Thinking Practitioner through IBM, she leverages partnership to address complex regional challenges. Her mission is simple: to help build a region where talent meets opportunity at every level, and where every individual has access to the resources needed to thrive in the modern economy.
Shanie graduated summa cum laude from the Pennsylvania State University in 2020 with her BS in Business with concentrations in management and marketing. She obtained her Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business in 2021. She is a:
- 2022 graduate of the Business Leads Fellowship Program through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation,
- 2023 graduate of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Workforce Leadership Academy Fellowship Program in partnership with the Aspen Institute, and
- 2023-2026 fellow of the Microsoft TechSpark Community Engagement Fellowship Program – the only fellow representing Pennsylvania among all 50 states and Mexico – creating inclusive economic growth through the focuses of: AI and computer science education, digital skilling in workforce development, tech entrepreneurship and innovation, and digital transformation.
Shanie serves on the Board of Directors for Dress for Success Luzerne County. She is the recipient of the 2023 Wilkes-Barre NAACP Freedom Fund Diversity Leadership Award.
